Arnot Opco creating economic opportunities for the local community
Exploring all surfaces: From underground to the office.
Community development remains at the forefront of Arnot Opco’s empowerment strategy. With the re-opening of the Arnot Mine, many services such as cleaning, maintenance and others have also had to resume. The mine’s former cleaning staff members are back to the fold. But, this time, under their very own company.
These former employees started their own cleaning company, Langelihle, with the assistance of the enterprise development department at the mine. It comprises 14 shareholders, and has been contracted to provide cleaning services to the mine.Langelihle started operating on the 1st of November 2020.
Arnot Opco’s Supply Chain Coordinator, Barend Smit has been working tirelessly with the Langelihle team in order to get them on board. “ArnotOpco started the partnership with Langelihle Cleaning in order to create economic opportunities for the local community, and to prove that employee-owned enterprises can both compete and thrive,” says Smit.
